First Biota samplings in Austria
On 5 November 2024 ABFK-BOKU fished on the banks of the Danube River in Klosterneuburg. The fish were lured with an electrofishing device and transferred into the boat with nets. 25 bleaks and 4 gobies were caught and are now being analyzed for microplastics in the laboratory.
Together with the information on microplastics in the water column and in the sediment, the results of the biota analyses will help to obtain a better understanding of the degree of pollution in the Danube River. First results about microplastics concentration in the sampled fishes are expected to be available in spring 2025.
