Meet our pilots - Satu Mare (Romania)

🚲🇷🇴 Meet Our Pilots – Satu Mare, Romania

Between July 1 and September 15, 2025, the Municipality of Satu Mare tested its CITYWALK 2.0 pilot action - an inspiring initiative that encourages residents to choose the bicycle as a means of transport to cultural and recreational events.

To achieve this, the team designed and installed mobile bicycle racks that can easily be moved and positioned near event locations, helping citizens cycle conveniently to where the action is. A total of 70 racks (14 sets of 5) were placed across the city in areas with high public traffic - near banks, shopping centres, promenades, and public institutions.

Throughout the summer, these racks supported several major events, including:
🎷 Jazz & Wine (June 20–22)
🎵 Street Music Festival (July 11–13)
🎬 TIFF Caravan (August 1–3)
🌍 World Music Festival (September 5–7)
Choose a Sport (September 12–13)

Using direct observation and monitoring, the team tracked how citizens responded and how the racks were used during the events - a practical and engaging way to promote active urban mobility.

Together with event organizers, Satu Mare also ran communication and awareness activities, highlighting the importance and benefits of cycling to events instead of driving.

A creative, flexible, and people-centred pilot that brings the CITYWALK 2.0 spirit to life! 🚴‍♀️
