In the spirit of advocating the energy transition and encouraging investments in renewable energy sources, Medjimurje Energy Agency Ltd. (MENEA), as an external expert and stakeholder of the Town of Prelog (also one of the LEEWAY project partners), is involved in the implementation of the project LEEWAY (LEading coopEration toWards energy communities policies tackling energy povertY) financed by the Interreg Europe programme.

The goal of the LEEWAY project is to create conditions for the development of communities that obtain energy from renewable sources, and it is aimed at local and regional government bodies that are trying to remove or alleviate obstacles that hinder the development of energy communities in their area.

In this role, MENEA (coordinator of Danube GeoHeCo project) already participated in various study trips organized by the LEEWAY project partners, with the aim of exchanging experience and good practices related to the development of energy communities and the use of renewable energy sources, and, in the frame of LEEWAY dissemination events organized by Town of Prelog, presented the acquired knowledge to the relevant regional stakeholders and wider audience.

Accordingly, after the second study trip to Roeselare (Belgium), an associated dissemination workshop was held in the Town of Prelog on 5th of July 2024, during which MENEA, as part of its lecture, presented the Danube GeoHeCo project as an example of good practice in terms of encouraging the utilization of geothermal energy using high-efficiency heat pumps, and indicated the possibility of using this form of renewable energy for RES projects initiated by energy communities.
