FLEXITRAIN:

Shaping Flexible Learning Across the Danube Region.

What Is FLEXITRAIN?

FLEXITRAIN is an international project co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg Danube Region Programme.

It brings together 11 partners from 9 countries to develop and test innovative tools that make vocational education more adaptable to the diverse realities of learners’ lives.

The goal? To reduce early school leaving, support young people aged 15–30, and offer learning paths that actually work — no matter their circumstances.

Why It Matters?

In many parts of the Danube region, educational systems still struggle to accommodate students who don’t follow the traditional path.

Whether due to personal challenges, economic hardship, or lack of support, thousands of young people are slipping through the cracks.

FLEXITRAIN wants to change that — by offering tools that empower learners, support educators, and inform smarter policies.

What Are the Project’s Objectives?

The project is structured around three clear objectives:

Raise awareness among public authorities and vocational institutions about the impact of early school leaving and the NEET rate in the region.

Develop and test a toolbox of flexible, modular learning methods with selected VET centres.

Encourage long-term uptake of the tested solutions by decision-makers and institutions across the Danube region.

What Is The Goal?

To reduce early school leaving, support young people aged 15–30, and offer learning paths that actually work — no matter their circumstances.

The FLEXITRAIN project was born out of a shared commitment to support young people in the Danube region who have fallen out of the education system — or never entered it in the first place.

With rising numbers of early school leavers and NEETs (young people not in education, employment, or training), there's an urgent need to rethink how vocational education can become more flexible, inclusive, and resilient.
