About the AVIATOR project
The Danube region, with its diverse ecosystems, is a key habitat for many bird species, especially birds of prey, which are vital for ecological balance. Their loss could trigger major disruptions, including biodiversity decline and habitat change. Main threats include human activities and emerging climate change impacts, which are closely linked. The AVIATOR project (“Avian Resilience and Adaptation through Awareness, Monitoring, Treatment, and Outreach for Raptors”) aims to enhance the resilience and protection of birds of prey in the Danube region. It develops and tests coordinated measures to mitigate infectious and parasitic diseases, combining pilot actions like vaccination and vector control with stakeholder cooperation. AVIATOR promotes integrated management, monitoring, and prevention strategies to safeguard endangered raptors and preserve essential ecosystem services.
