D.2.1.2 - PP8 Community Workshop in Romania: Co‑Creating Practical Solutions for Better Rural Living

Combating depopulation and turning villages into attractive places to live and work cannot be achieved through standardized, top-down solutions. Each community knows its own challenges, resources and opportunities best.

This was the starting point of the community event organized under the European project Danube4Rural.com, where representatives of public administration, the business environment, non-governmental organizations and the local community from Țara Dornelor jointly examined five public policy directions aimed at increasing the attractiveness of rural areas for remote workers.

The discussions showed that solutions exist, but their success depends on collaboration. Available housing, digital infrastructure, the integration of new residents, the value of natural and cultural heritage, and the development of services adapted to families are all pieces of the same puzzle — one that only works when public authorities, the private sector and civil society act together.

An encouraging aspect was the participants' involvement: they did not limit themselves to identifying challenges but came forward with concrete proposals for adapting solutions to the realities of Țara Dornelor. As a result, the recommendations formulated during the event will contribute to the development of the project's pilot phase and to shaping public policies anchored in the community's real needs.

The event marked the continuation of a consultation process that began earlier through two focus groups, confirming that the best solutions emerge when the community is involved from the very stage the solutions are built, not only at the moment of implementation.

We thank everyone who contributed with ideas, experience, and openness. Every perspective brought into the discussion brings us closer to a shared goal: rural communities that are stronger, more attractive and better prepared for the future.
