Preparing for JDS5: Advancing HYMO Assessment for the Danube River Basin
On April 28 and 29, the HYMO JDS5 Workshop, hosted at the BOKU River Lab in Vienna, Austria, took place. This event is a collaborative effort between the ICPDR HYMO task group and the DanubeSediment_Q2 project, bringing together approximately 40 experts from across the Danube countries.
The workshop is chaired by Petra Repnik, Chairperson of the ICPDR's Hydromorphology Task Group. She is joined by Helmut Habersack, Head of the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and River Research at BOKU University and Birgit Vogel, Executive Secretary of the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR)
Key topics discussed include segmentation criteria, homogeneous river reaches, the HYMO Operational Manual, and multi-hierarchical assessment methodology. The workshop also features showcases of practical examples and outlines the work plan for the upcoming months, all in preparation for the Joint Danube Survey 5 (JDS5).
The collaborative efforts and shared insights from this workshop are instrumental in shaping sustainable sediment management strategies for the Danube River Basin.
