Two events in Podgorica, Montenegro
Within the InDiMaND project (Integrated Disaster Management Network in Danube Region), two events were held in Podgorica, Montenegro at the Training Centre for Protection and Rescue between 20-22 October 2025.
The first referred to the priority area of environmental protection within the EU Strategy for the Danube Region under the title “Strengthening regional cooperation in the Danube Region: EUSDR PA5 consultations with EU accession countries – Montenegro,” while the second was a roundtable on experiences and lessons learned from the 2025 fire season.
The Indimand project represents a joint initiative of 13 project partners from 9 countries of the Danube Region, supported by 17 strategic partners. Its aim is to improve the protection and rescue system, develop joint response models in protection and rescue, and strengthen the resilience and involvement of our communities in responding to natural and technical-technological disasters.
The total value of the project amounts to EUR 1,915,120, of which the European Union, through the Interreg Danube Region Programme, provides EUR 1,532,096, representing 80% of the total budget.
The Directorate for Protection and Rescue, as a partner from Montenegro, approved funds totaling EUR 143,750. The European Union finances 80% of this amount (EUR 115,000), while the remainder is provided through national co-financing. This contribution of the European Union confirms its commitment to improving the region's safety and resilience and simultaneously demonstrates trust in our institutions and capacities.
Through the project, joint prevention and intervention models will be developed, standardized response procedures (SOPs) will be prepared, and trainings, pilot exercises, simulations, and awareness-raising campaigns on the importance of volunteerism in protection and rescue will be carried out. A special segment of activities will focus on developing digital tools and platforms for real-time information exchange, enabling a faster and more efficient response in crisis situations.
For the 13 participating project partners and for Montenegro, this was an exceptional opportunity to further strengthen operational capacities and contribute to aligning our systems with European standards.
