Capacity Building in Action: KÉK Joins Makád's Community Day

On 18 July, the KÉK team took part in the Makád Artisan and Farmers' Market and Community Day, a local event in the Szigetzug pilot region, marking a milestone in the capacity-building process carried out under PlaceCRAFT.

The event builds directly on the insights and needs identified through previous capacity-building meetings with local actors in Makád and the wider Szigetzug region, and reflects the ongoing collaboration between KÉK and the local community.

As part of this collaboration, KÉK supported the event's organisation and online communication, and added an arts and crafts workshop to the programme. The communal singing that shaped much of the evening grew out of this partnership, too: the idea of bringing live music to the market came up in conversation with KÉK, and a new band came together especially for the occasion, drawing in several new people.

The evening was also a chance for KÉK to learn more about the community itself. Alongside the celebrations, the team carried out a wider survey among local residents to better understand how people experience life in Makád and what they'd like to see develop further. During the children's arts and crafts workshop, the team also talked with the youngest residents about how they see the place they live in, and what they enjoy or wish for around their village, offering a perspective that's every bit as important as the ones shared by adults.

The evening ran late into the night, and offered something for everyone: a farmers' market featuring locally produced and handcrafted goods, communal singing, an arts and crafts workshop, and an open-air screening. The combination of tradition, creativity, and community spirit made for a lively, well-attended evening, a strong example of how small, targeted contributions can strengthen a local event while deepening mutual understanding between KÉK and the community.

Both the KÉK team and the local community are already looking forward to continuing this collaboration in the months ahead.
