Capacity Building in Action I KÉK Joins Makád's Community Day
On 18 July, the KÉK team took part in the Makád Artisan and Farmers’ Market and Community Day, a local event in the Szigetzug pilot region that marked an important milestone in the capacity-building process carried out under PlaceCRAFT.
The event built directly on the insights and needs identified through previous capacity-building meetings with local actors in Makád and the wider Szigetzug region, reflecting the ongoing collaboration between KÉK and the local community.
As part of this collaboration, KÉK supported the organisation and online communication of the event and contributed an arts and crafts workshop to the programme. One of the highlights of the evening was the live music that emerged from the collaboration: conversations around the event helped bring together a group of local musicians who performed together for the first time and are now planning to continue making music together. Their performance also helped attract new visitors to the market, bringing additional energy and participation to the community event.

The event also created an opportunity for KÉK to learn more about the community itself. Alongside the celebrations, the team carried out a survey among local residents to better understand how people experience life in Makád and what they would like to see develop further. Through the children’s arts and crafts workshop, the team also explored how younger residents perceive their village, what they value about their surroundings and what they would like to see in the future.
These conversations and observations provide valuable insights for the next steps of the PlaceCRAFT process, where local knowledge, experiences and aspirations help shape future actions in the community.
