• Lujza Homestead l Radmila Toškov •
Radmila Toškov is one of the most recognizable local hosts in the Belo Blato microregion, in Serbia. Through Lujza Homestead, she has created a warm rural setting where everyday life on the Banat plain is felt naturally, through food, household atmosphere, local stories, animals, and the surrounding wetland landscape. Her role reaches far beyond hosting guests: she carries local knowledge in a practical way, through recipes, hospitality, and storytelling, and has become one of the people visitors immediately associate with the village.
Radmila gives local heritage a practical form. It isn't explained, but experienced, through a meal, a yard, and local products made by her family or small local producers. Over the years, she has also supported the local economy through cooperation, helping small producers, from an organic fish farm to local honey makers, reach a wider audience through her homestead.
Radmila's work reflects many of the values at the heart of PlaceCRAFT: rural development that grows from people who already understand a place from the inside. The name Lujza carries the memory of a former homestead where Radmila grew up, and through her work, that memory has become part of how Belo Blato presents itself today, as a place with depth, continuity, and a strong connection to its landscape.
As a locally rooted initiative, Lujza Homestead shows what heritage-based rural placemaking can look like when it's led by someone rooted in the community. Radmila preserved a meaningful local name, built one of the strongest living reference points of Belo Blato, and demonstrated how everyday hospitality can become a resource for rural development.
