On Friday, 13th March, 2026, a professional conference titled “Transition of heating and cooling systems - from planning to implementation” was held at the Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar (EIHP) in Zagreb, Croatia.

The conference was organised with the aim of providing an overview of current activities in the sector, highlighting opportunities to improve energy efficiency and supporting the decarbonisation of district heating and cooling systems.

The event was held within the framework of the REHEATEAST, Enefirst Plus, HEAT 35, USES4HEAT Project, DHC SwEEtch, and GreetGeo projects, all of which contribute to the development of sustainable energy systems and the implementation of European climate and energy policies.

The conference programme was structured around several thematic sessions:

👉 recent legislative and regulatory developments, as well as obligations arising from new European and national energy policies
👉 energy planning and the development of district heating systems
👉 project financing opportunities and available support instruments for development and modernisation
👉 utilization of waste heat and geothermal energy
👉 advanced solutions in district cooling

The conference brought together energy sector experts, representatives of heat producers, equipment manufacturers, regulatory institutions, academia, and other stakeholders, providing a platform for knowledge exchange, experience sharing, and discussion on the further development of district heating in Croatia.
