SpinIT Project Hosted an international S3 Online Seminar
Yesterday, June 6th, 2024, the SpinIT project successfully organized an S3 Online seminar, engaging participants from various sectors and regions. The seminar was led by senior consultant Katalin Kovacs from Innomine DIH and provided a comprehensive overview of the Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3).
The seminar addressed critical aspects of S3 strategies, emphasizing the relevance of transformative activities in defining Smart Specialisation Strategies . Participants explored why these activities are vital for fostering knowledge-based growth in EU regions and countries, aiming to achieve a smarter, sustainable, and inclusive Europe.
As highlighted during the seminar, designing a smart specialisation strategy involves identifying a small number of transformative activities that will be developed and supported. This portfolio of activities is managed at the regional level and can be modified as new opportunities for structural change arise. However, spontaneous transformative activity, driven by entrepreneurial vision and coordinated actions, can boost regional innovation but is difficult to develop through collective actions without significant coordination. The transformation process does not happen spontaneously, which underscores the necessity of having robust policies in place.
Policies are essential in identifying the necessary transformative activities to trigger structural change and support their growth. Each transformative activity corresponds to a particular policy, ensuring the structured development and implementation of S3 strategies. These policies play a crucial role in managing and adapting the portfolio of transformative activities to maximize their impact on regional development.
The seminar provided valuable insights and fostered meaningful discussions on S3 strategies and their implementation across various regions. Participants had the opportunity to interact with experts, enhancing their understanding of the critical role of S3 in regional development.
