TRANSDINARICA2 present at Rural Downhill in Herceg Novi

First edition of Rural Downhill Herceg Novi 2026 (Montenegro) from 22–24 May 2026

The first edition of the cycling race Rural Downhill Herceg Novi 2026 was successfully held last weekend at the Borići location in the hinterland of Herceg Novi, as part of the Wind Festival, gathering around thirty cyclists from Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition to its sporting character, the event also had a significant promotional role through the presentation of the TRANSDINARICA2 project, in which the associated partner organization Durmitor Adventure actively participated.

Through the presence of representatives from Durmitor Adventure and the promotion of project activities, Rural Downhill Herceg Novi became an example of how sports and outdoor events can contribute to the development of sustainable tourism, cycling, active time in nature and better connection of rural areas with the regional network of cycling destinations.

The event program began on Friday, May 22, 2026, with the gathering of participants and a joint ride at the Pump Track polygon in Igalo, marking the start of a weekend dedicated to mountain biking, socializing, and the exchange of experiences among riders from the region. Activities continued throughout Saturday and Sunday with training sessions on the downhill track in Borići, while the central part of the program was the main race, held across two different stages.

The competition took place in an excellent atmosphere, without injuries and with a high level of organization. Riders competed in the Junior, Elite, Masters, Hobby and Women categories, while positive impressions from participants confirmed the potential of Borići to become a recognized destination on the regional MTB map.

Organizers emphasize that the successful first edition of Rural Downhill Herceg Novi demonstrated how cooperation between sports organizations, the local community and development projects such as TRANSDINARICA2 can contribute to the promotion of lesser-known areas, the creation of new tourism content and the strengthening of Montenegro’s position as an attractive destination for active and sustainable tourism.

The event was supported by the Wind Festival, Cycling Federation of Montenegro, Una Montenegro, Triathlon Club Herceg Novi, Municipality of Herceg Novi, Tourist Organization Herceg Novi and Sports Center Igalo.
