TRANSDINARICA2 Project at Durmitor Downhill 2026

The TRANSDINARICA2 project was presented to participants and visitors of Durmitor Downhill 2026, held on 29 and 30 August at Štuoc, Žabljak. The event was organised by Durmitor Adventure, an associated partner of the project.

The event provided an excellent opportunity to introduce the project’s objectives, as well as Trans Dinarica – an international cycling route connecting destinations along the Dinaric Alps, to an audience already passionate about cycling, nature and active holidays.

This year, Durmitor Downhill was held for the 11th time, confirming both the continuity of the event and the growing interest in mountain biking on Durmitor. Each year, the race attracts an increasing number of participants, including experienced competitors, juniors and younger categories, as well as women – demonstrating that the local mountain biking community continues to grow.

This potential is also highly relevant to TRANSDINARICA2. The Municipality of Žabljak, a project partner, plans to use project activities not only to support the main Trans Dinarica route, but also to integrate and connect local cycling trails, including those designed for mountain biking. This will further diversify the destination’s offer for cycling enthusiasts and visitors seeking active outdoor experiences.

Presenting the project at Durmitor Downhill was therefore an opportunity to bring TRANSDINARICA2 closer to those who best understand the potential of cycling and outdoor tourism – and to demonstrate how existing local initiatives and an international cycling route can work together to support the development of Žabljak as a destination for active and sustainable tourism.
