The City of Chisinau acquainted local stakeholders with UHI assessment
On September 20, 2024, in Chisinau, a local workshop was organized within the „Be Ready” project to acquaint the local stakeholders with the methodology to assess their cities vulnerability to urban heat island. The local project coordinator Diana Guritenco presented the project, which aims to adapt to climate change and mitigate its effects in urban areas.
The special guest of the workshop, Maros Finka, representative of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava and research partner in the project, co-author of the city assessment methodology, brought into discussion the challenges and measures related to urban heat islands, providing valuable insights from its field of expertise.
The agenda of the workshop included a debate on the challenges faced by Chisinau municipality in the context of climate change, as well as important measures to reduce their impact. The participants also had the opportunity to discuss the methodology of vulnerability and risk assessment and to explore the self-assessment tools, developed in the project.
The event was attended by different stakeholders from the quadruple helix, such as the State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, representatives of the Environment Agency, State Hydrometeorological Service, National Agency for Energy Regulation, Green City Lab Moldova, and, NGO ProMediu, NGO EcoContact, Centru District Township, and the General Directorate for Architecture, urbanism and land relations and many others.
At the end of the workshop, a Local Coalition Pact was signed by the representatives of seven stakeholders. By doing this, they agree to join forces in reducing the effects of climate change in the City of Chisinau.
