Hévíz Climate Sandbox Workshop

On May 29, 2025, stakeholders from across Hévíz gathered for a Local Climate Sandbox Workshop focused on addressing urban heat island (UHI) effects and planning sustainable solutions for the city. The event brought together local authorities, experts, and community members for session of collaborative planning and dialogue.

The workshop began with a warm welcome and an overview of its objectives. Participants were then presented with a detailed assessment of UHI vulnerabilities and risks specific to Hévíz, supported by informative infographics designed to make the findings accessible to a broad audience.

A key highlight of the event was the presentation of the city’s pilot plan, which aims to reduce heat accumulation in a newly developed public square through innovative urban design and green infrastructure.

After a short break, participants took part in a hands-on session to collaboratively shape the next steps for bringing the pilot plan to life. Together, they developed a detailed Pilot Action Roadmap, which will guide the implementation of climate-adaptive measures in the new square and potentially other areas of the city.

The workshop served as a great example of how scientific insights and community engagement can be integrated to create a cooler, more livable city.
