“Let’s Cool Podgorica Together” Sandbox Workshop
On May 26, 2025, the Capital City of Podgorica hosted the “Let’s Cool Podgorica Together” workshop, part of the Be Ready project. The event centered on presenting key findings from the Urban Heat Island Vulnerability and Risk Assessment and co-developing a roadmap for pilot actions to mitigate UHI effects in Podgorica.
The assessment provides a comprehensive analysis of the city’s climate vulnerabilities, based on four core components: exposure, sensitivity, preparedness, and adaptive capacity. City Kvart was highlighted as one of the most affected areas and identified as a priority zone for future interventions.
The workshop brought together a wide range of local stakeholders, including representatives from local government, climate adaptation experts, urban planners, civil society organizations, and community members. Through collaborative sessions, participants discussed UHI-related risks, shared knowledge, and worked on defining the scope and content of the pilot measure to be implemented in the city.
Key outcomes of the workshop included the development of practical implementation guidelines, which encompassed a detailed roadmap for the pilot phase, tools for evaluating and assessing the impact of proposed actions, legal and administrative checklists necessary for implementation, strategies for stakeholder and citizen engagement, financial planning instruments, as well as defined communication and outreach approaches.
This event is part of a series of climate sandbox workshops under the Be Ready project. The project supports authorities and organizations on a local level in building resilience to climate change by testing and applying innovative, sustainable solutions for reducing the impacts of urban heat.
