Local Climate Sandbox Workshop on Urban Greening Held in Niš
As part of the Be Raedy project, a local climate sandbox workshop was held on May 13, 2025, at the SKIP Center in Niš, Serbia. This workshop marks the beginning of a pilot greening initiative that will be implemented in the city center during the summer, aiming to reduce the effects of urban heat islands (UHI) and improve the overall quality of urban life.
The interactive workshop was led by representatives of the City Administration for Local Economic Development and Investments, along with professors from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture at the University of Niš. They presented a comprehensive expert report on vulnerability and risk assessment related to UHIs specific of Niš, developed within the project.
Participants from across sectors—including public institutions, academia, businesses, civil society, and residents—engaged in hands-on activities designed to foster collaborative solution-building. The workshop encouraged creative thinking and collective planning, enabling attendees to contribute ideas for climate change mitigation and urban resilience strategies. The collaborative work resulted in a roadmap for the upcoming pilot implementation.
