DECORATOR project aims to catalyse the circular transformation of the built environment in the Danube region. It addresses the circularity as a holistic challenge, encompassing the ecological, technical, socio-cultural and economic domains.
DECORATOR will therefore run pilot actions during 2025 to test the model in practice, focusing on different parts of the construction value chain. In each participating country, 'conceptual and speculative spaces' will be created, where service design and art-based methods will be used to develop new understandings, meanings and uses of place in the built environment. This event was therefore the launch event for this process in Hungary.

The innovation workshop started after the coffee break, where participants had the opportunity to listen to several presentations from construction professionals.
Krisztián Méhes (Makrópa Ltd.) presented a technology that allows the use of construction waste to replace gravel in concrete mixes. The designed method is rather flexible because different kinds of waste can be used. The technology is therefore especially suited for construction companies that produce large quantity of materials which – otherwise – would end up as waste from the construction sites.

Zoltán Frunyó (KÉSZ Metaltech) then presented a solar parking system, which is already on the market as a product. The novelty of the application is the solar panel with special material that generates electricity on both sides therefore it is especially suited to installation of roofs at parking lots.
The third presentation was given by István Árvai (K-ARTS ) on the use of waste materials in the arts sector. Their activities often result in very unusual but creative works of art. They bring together members of the construction industry and artists to create something beautiful that is also in line with sustainability.
The last presentation was on innovative methods of renewable energy and their links to the circular economy, given by György Szügyi from the National Association of Innovative Clusters. The presentations were followed by a consultation with the speakers. Many of the participants were interested in the solutions presented, and the event ended with a lively discussion.
