FUNDA 3rd SCOM Meeting & Transnational Awareness Raising Workshop

FUNDA 3rd SCOM Meeting & Transnational Awareness Raising Workshop

In mid-September 2026, Subotica, Serbia, hosted the 3rd FUNDA Partner Meeting (SCOM) and Transnational Awareness-Raising Workshop. The event brought together project partners to exchange experiences and discuss common challenges related to the planning and management of Functional Urban Areas (FUAs) across the Danube Region.

The discussions focused on participatory planning, territorial cooperation and the importance of integrated approaches to urban and regional development. Partners shared experiences and explored how cooperation between municipalities and other stakeholders can support more effective responses to challenges that extend beyond administrative boundaries.

Presenting the FUA Monitoring System

One of the key highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the FUA Monitoring System, developed by Lechner Non-profit Ltd. The system brings together environmental, social and economic data to support evidence-based planning and decision-making in Functional Urban Areas across the Danube Region.

Access to relevant and comparable data is an important step towards understanding territorial needs, identifying common challenges and developing more effective planning solutions.

Addressing Challenges Through Cooperation

The workshop highlighted that issues such as transport, green infrastructure and public services often go beyond the boundaries of individual municipalities. Addressing these challenges requires coordinated action, joint planning and the exchange of knowledge and experience between local and regional stakeholders.

The experiences gained in the FUNDA pilot areas, together with recommendations developed through transnational cooperation, will contribute to two important project outputs: the Integrated Participatory Planning Methodology and the Joint Transnational Strategy.

The meeting in Subotica provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among project partners and further advance the shared work towards more effective governance of Functional Urban Areas.

Through FUNDA, partners continue to work together to strengthen institutional capacities and promote integrated, participatory planning across the Danube Region.

The FUNDA project is supported by the Interreg Danube Region Programme, co-funded by the European Union.
