Makád Community Day I A Local Celebration Growing from PlaceCRAFT Collaboration

On 18 July, the Makád Artisan and Farmers’ Market and Community Day brought together local producers, craftspeople, residents and visitors for an evening celebrating local knowledge, creativity and community connections in the Szigetzug pilot region.

The event was part of the ongoing PlaceCRAFT collaboration with the Makád community, building on previous discussions with local actors and ideas developed through the capacity-building activities. By bringing together existing local initiatives, products, talents and community traditions, the evening created a space where different parts of village life could meet and connect.

The programme featured a local farmers’ market with handmade and locally produced goods, creative activities, communal singing and an open-air cinema. As part of the collaboration, the KÉK team supported the organisation and online communication of the event and contributed an arts and crafts activity to the programme.

A special moment of the evening was the live music that grew from the local collaboration around the event. Conversations during the preparation phase helped bring together a group of local musicians, who performed together for the first time. Their performance attracted new visitors to the market and created a new community experience that the musicians are now planning to continue beyond the event.

The Makád Community Day showed how locally rooted events can become opportunities for strengthening connections, supporting new collaborations and bringing existing community assets into shared spaces. It reflects the PlaceCRAFT approach of recognising what already exists and supporting communities in shaping meaningful places together.
