Sustainable Fashion and Circular Economy Festival in Čakovec, Croatia
Čakovec, a small town in the north Croatia, hosted a unique regional event—the Sustainable Fashion and Circular Economy Festival, the first gathering of its kind in the wider regional area. The festival took place on November 14, 2025, at hall of the industry education center Metalska jezgra, bringing together creative minds, sustainability advocates, and members of the local community to explore new possibilities within the textile industry.
Innovative Event Promoting Environmental and Social Responsibility
The Festival was organized and hosted by the Social Cooperative Humana Nova, a leading regional example of social entrepreneurship and textile reuse. The event was supported by the Tourist Board of Međimurje County and by the Erasmus+ project “Recikliraj – Intergenerational Creative Recycling.” Which is implemented in cooperation with partners Društvo Mozaik and Zavod Mensana from Slovenia, emphasizing cross-border collaboration and the importance of learning across generations.
The festival engaged visitors of all ages and interests, combining creativity, education, and entertainment. The program included:
Sustainable fashion show featuring original pieces created through environmentally responsible production, accompanied by a music and entertainment program.
Presentation of Humana Nova’s community-changing initiatives, including projects RECIKLIRAJ, DECIDE (TICM) , and DeCo .
Creative workshop on textile recycling where participants can learn practical techniques for giving new life to used materials.
Showcase of local organizations, products, and services, demonstrating how circular economy principles can thrive within a community.
Social gathering with refreshments, highlighting products from local producers and encouraging networking and collaboration.
More than just an event, the Festival represented an opportunity for citizens, experts, students, and fashion enthusiasts to come together and explore how sustainability and creativity intersect. It raised awareness of importance of responsible consumption, social inclusion, and local entrepreneurship, and above all, it encouraged the community to take an active role in shaping a greener and more socially engaged future.
