Participation of TRANSFER Danube project in Danube‑ADAPT Online Event
The lead partner of the TRANSFERE Danube project - National Meteorological Administration (NMA), participated in an online event within the frame of the Danube ADAPT project on March 26, 2026.
The Danube‑ADAPT event was organised by NMA, Partner, in its capacity as Project Partner 4, and was held in a virtual format. It brought together researchers, students, representatives of ministries, municipalities, and the river transport sector from across the Danube region to discuss and collaborate on how harmonised climate data and interdisciplinary research can support the development of sustainable climate adaptation policies, thus responding to the urgent need for resilience in the face of increasingly severe climate risks.
The meeting, which brought together approximately 45 participants, gathered representatives of municipalities and county councils, along with central public institutions such as the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, researchers from the National Meteorological Administration, specialists from the national research institute GEOECOMAR, experts from the energy sector at Nuclearelectrica – CNE Cernavodă, and the Interreg Danube Focal Point team from Romania. Together, they explored challenges and solutions related to climate change adaptation in the Danube region. The event was organized precisely to create a shared space for dialogue, collaboration, and learning, where local experiences, scientific expertise, and national perspectives could come together in a joint effort to build more resilient and sustainable communities.
The meeting opened with a presentation of the Danube-ADAPT project, during which the organisers highlighted the importance of access to coherent and comparable climate data for the entire Danube basin, as well as the role of the project in facilitating this process. The presentation was followed by a round of questions from participants, focused on technical and operational clarifications regarding project implementation.
A central moment of the meeting was the discussion on priorities for climate change adaptation, emphasizing the need for data, indicators, spatial resolutions, and formats relevant for adaptation planning. Participants discussed the optimal way to harmonise such data to support national decision‑making processes.
An important aspect highlighted during the discussions was the synergy between the Danube–ADAPT project and the TRANSFER Danube initiative. Both projects aim to strengthen regional cooperation, exchange of best practices, and data interoperability, with the overarching goal of increasing the capacity of Danube basin states to effectively respond to climate-related challenges. The synchronisation of activities, the complementarity of tools used, and the thematic convergence between the two initiatives contribute to a coherent and efficient approach to climate change adaptation across the region.
The event concluded with the formulation of key takeaways and the identification of future collaboration directions, emphasizing the shared commitment to advancing climate resilience and fostering continuous knowledge exchange among regional stakeholders.
