Project CLIMANATRES presented at Bulgaria’s national conference on the Nature Restoration Plan

On 17 June 2026, the National Museum of Natural History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences took part in the national conference “Nature Restoration – responsibilities and opportunities through a common national plan”, held at the National Ethnographic Museum in Sofia. The conference “Nature Restoration – Responsibilities and Opportunities through a Common National Plan” was organized with the support of the Coalition “For Nature to Remain in Bulgaria”, the Ministry of Environment and Water, and the National Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences., and gathered representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Water, scientific institutions, NGOs and experts from multiple sectors (including the Ministry of Agriculture and Food).

According to the BSPB announcement the conference aimed “to present the EU Nature Restoration Regulation as a new tool for protecting and restoring ecosystems in Bulgaria” and to facilitate dialogue on proposed restoration measures across forest, agricultural, wetland and urban ecosystems.

The official programme included several thematic panels and expert discussions whereinSalza Palpurina presented the CLIMANATRES project, implemented under the Interreg Danube Region Programme, within the panel for Wetlands zones and river connectivity.

The presentation highlighted the project’s approach to climate-informed ecological restoration planning, the integration of scientific evidence and regional datasets, and the importance of cross-border cooperation in the Danube region. CLIMANATRES contributes to Bulgaria’s national restoration planning by providing science-based methodologies and regional perspectives essential for effective and climate-resilient implementation of the EU Nature Restoration Regulation.
