Municipality of Domžale is a successful and reputable business, sports and cultural centre. An environment that promotes sustainable development, innovation, creativity and self-initiative. Together with the surrounding areas, it is a pleasant and orderly city that offers a quality of life for all generations and creates many opportunities for young people. Domžale is oriented toward the future, sees opportunities in sustainable growth, boutique supply, green solutions and digitalization.
Due to its location in the central part of Slovenia and only 15 km away from the capital Ljubljana, at the crossroads of intensive traffic streams, surrounded by forested hills and agricultural plains. Municipality of Domžale is a very attractive place to live and work. It‘s a home to more than 37.400 inhabitants, which ranks Domžale 7th among Slovene municipalities.
The Municipality of Domžale, with its 73 employees, has a wide range of expertise and skills in public administration, law, economics, construction, geodesy, architecture, spatial planning, transport, tourism, agriculture, communications and civil protection.
The Danube-ADAPT project team of the Municipality of Domžale consist of: Katja Zarnik as Project manager, Katja Možina as Financial manager and Maja Brusnjak Hrastar as Thematic expert. All three are employed at the Domžale Municipality's Department of Urban Planning. The project team also includes Petra Hrovat, who has the role of Communication manager and is employed in the European Projects Office at the Domžale Municipality. The project team will be supported by the knowledge and experience of the Director of the Municipal Administration, Janez Ziherl.
While Domžale not have extensive experience in climatology or climate resilience, the municipality is eager to participate in initiatives like Danube-ADAPT to enhance its preparedness and strategy in adapting to the impacts of climate change. By leveraging evidence-based approaches, Domžale seeks to fortify its resilience and safeguard its community against the challenges posed by a changing climate.
Within the framework of the Danube- ADAPT project, MOD will primarily engage in activities related to SO2 and SO3. Within SO2, MOD will work together with partners on developing a climate risk inventory map that addresses the specific climate-related challenges of the city and its surroundings. In SO3, MOD will participate in capacity building sessions and will host a Climate Breakfast Club event focusing on evidence-based policymaking targeted at decision-makers in the city and its wider area. MOD will collect good practices related to climate adaptation policy enhancement. Additionally, MOD will work alongside Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO) and ZRS Bistra Ptuj (BPtuj) on the development of the national roadmap.
