Danube GeoHeCo pilot investment in Güssing, Austria: Modernization and Expansion of the Cultural and Congress Center in Güssing
The construction project involves a comprehensive modernization and extension of the existing cultural and congress center in Güssing. The original standalone structure will be preserved in its distinctive form and remains harmoniously integrated into the riverside landscape along the Strem.
To the east, the complex is expanded by a new open-air stage. Together with the existing building, this addition forms a semicircular audience area, with the new stage structure at its center. On both sides, arcaded walkways frame the stage, blending seamlessly into the architectural and functional design of the facility. The new structure also serves as a sound barrier to the neighboring property. If needed, a mobile noise protection wall can be installed in the southwestern access area during louder events.
The main entrance from Schulstraße remains unchanged. The new open-air facility is accessible to the public via the existing footpath along the Strem. The delivery zone along the northern property boundary will be extended and supplemented by an additional loading ramp for the outdoor stage.
The building’s heating supply is primarily provided by a heat pump in combination with a district heating connection. The required nominal heating capacity is 320 kW. The energy source consists of a geothermal field with 34 boreholes, each 120 m deep, supplemented by a photovoltaic system. In the first stage of operation, the heat pump covers the base load, while district heating is used for peak demand.
All heating surfaces are designed as low-temperature systems, with underfloor heating being predominantly used for space heating. The total floor area of the construction project is 2,581 m².
