Scientific paper on “Utilising geothermal waste heat for district cooling using absorption chillers: a pilot project in Szeged, Hungary”
Representatives of InnoGeo Research and Service Nonprofit Ltd. took part in the European Geothermal Congress 2025, held in Zurich, Switzerland, from 6 to 10 October 2025. On this occasion, the Danube GeoHeCo project was presented, with particular focus on the pilot site in Szeged, Hungary.
Participation in this prestigious congress included the preparation and presentation of the scientific paper entitled: “Utilising geothermal waste heat for district cooling using absorption chillers: a pilot project in Szeged, Hungary”
The paper outlines the current state of geothermal energy utilisation in Hungary, with particular emphasis on a pilot investment implemented at the District Heating Company of Szeged (SZETÁV). It presents a classification of adsorption chiller systems, discusses adsorption chiller systems powered by geothermal energy, and highlights other relevant technical and operational aspects related to the pilot investment.
Participation in the European Geothermal Congress 2025, together with the presented paper, represents an important contribution to knowledge exchange and the promotion of innovative, sustainable heating and cooling solutions in the Danube Region.
