Zlatibor Regional Development Agency marked the International Day of Forests

In the frame of Activity 2.3, innovative concept of a “living souvenir” Pinus nigra seedling was successfully presented at the event that took place on 21st March, 2026 in the Regional Innovation Center RisHub in Uzice.

Thanks to the Danube Wood(s) Route project, implemented within the Interreg Danube Region Programme, the Zlatibor Regional Development Agency, supported the initiative aiming to create the “living souvenir”. Idea is to become a part of a transnational cultural route and a recognizable element of the tourism offer of Western Serbia – Zlatibor, Tara and Zlatar.

The event gathered relevant stakeholders from the Zlatibor District, where possibilities and its potential for further integration into the region tourism offer were presented. Gratitude goes to the Regional Association of Private Forest Owners “Omorika” for this great initiative. The association aims, through an innovative approach and in both a symbolic and practical way, to raise awareness about the importance of forests, as well as to encourage citizens and tourists to actively participate in forest conservation by planting their own tree.

This initiative has the opportunity to become internationally recognized through the Danube Wood(s) Route, which will apply to the Council of Europe for certification as an official European Cultural Route, which would further enhance its visibility and significance at the international level.
