Fifth Project Partners & Steering Committee Meeting Held in Varna, Bulgaria

On 19–20 February 2026, project partners of the Danube Wood(s) Route gathered in Varna, Bulgaria, for the 5th Project Partners & Steering Committee Meeting, marking another important milestone in the implementation of this inspiring transnational initiative.

Over two productive days, partners reviewed the overall project progress and exchanged updates on the implementation of regional workshops, as well as on the development of the final Itinerary of the transnational Danube cultural wood(s) route. The meeting provided an opportunity to align activities, assess achievements, and define the next steps toward establishing a strong and sustainable cultural route across the Danube region.

Discussions focused on the upcoming regional steps for the Design Innovation Toolbox, progress and planning of crowdfunding activities, preparation of the Certification Package for the Danube Woods Cultural Route, and the establishment of the Transnational Danube Wood(s) Network. These elements represent key building blocks for ensuring the long-term sustainability, visibility, and recognition of the route at transnational level.

Project modifications and key management updates were presented by the project coordinator, M.Sc. Helena Cvenkel, Director for Research and Development at BSC Kranj – Regional Development Agency of Gorenjska, Slovenia, who provided an overview of the current status and outlined the roadmap for the upcoming project period.

The meeting also included a study visit to the Euxinograd Residence Eco-Park in Varna, where participants explored the park’s remarkable tree diversity and unique landscape features under the guidance of an expert tour guide. The visit offered valuable inspiration and further strengthened the project’s connection to natural and cultural heritage, highlighting the importance of integrating environmental values into cultural tourism development.

The Danube Wood(s) Route continues to evolve as a collaborative platform connecting regions, heritage, innovation, and sustainable tourism across the Danube area. With each meeting and joint activity, partners reaffirm their commitment to building a meaningful and resilient cultural route that celebrates the rich wood-related heritage of the region.

Further updates will follow as the project advances into its next phase.
