DRWO4.0 Final Conference Showcases Digital Transformation in the Wood Industry
The two-day final conference of the international project DRWO4.0: Danube Region Wood Industry Transformation Model towards Industry 4.0 was held at PVA EXPO PRAHA. The event focused on the transformation of the wood and furniture industry toward Industry 4.0 principles, offering expert presentations, best practice sharing, and extensive networking opportunities for companies, institutions, and industry professionals. The final conference took place on March 26–27, 2026.
The conference opened with a welcome speech by Ing. Lucia Haraslínová, Ph.D., Chairwoman of the Cluster of Czech Furniture Manufacturers, who highlighted the importance of innovation and international collaboration in enhancing the competitiveness of the sector.
The first day focused on current technological trends. Alexander Bičan from Agerit, s.r.o. presented how artificial intelligence can be applied to production management and process optimization. This was followed by B2B meetings, giving participants the chance for individual consultations with experts and the opportunity to exchange practical experiences.
A highlight of the program was a guided tour of the FOR INTERIOR trade fair led by Ing. Vítězslav Gaja, Ph.D. from TZÚ, s.p.. The tour emphasized both successful and less successful solutions showcased at the fair. The day concluded with an informal networking reception.
The second day centered on the presentation of the project’s key outputs. Ing. Monika Perďochová introduced the main results of DRWO4.0 and their practical applications for companies in the region. This was followed by a presentation by Ing. Luboš Červený, Ph.D. on implementing innovative technologies in furniture production.
Sharing best practices formed a major part of the program, with companies WOOD 4 EVER, s.r.o., NADOP-VÝROBA NÁBYTKU, a.s., and Dřevojas, výrobní družstvo presenting their experiences in digitalization, automation, and implementing Industry 4.0 principles.
The conference concluded with a discussion on the future of the sector, confirming the growing importance of technological innovation, digital transformation, and cross-regional collaboration in the Danube area. The DRWO4.0 project has delivered concrete tools and recommendations to help companies respond effectively to the challenges of today’s industrial landscape.
The event demonstrated that the transition to Industry 4.0 is not just a technological change, but a comprehensive process involving innovation, education, and knowledge sharing across the entire industry.
