The Cahul Business Center and Ecological Consulting Center Cahul Sign Memorandum of Cooperation to Advance Environmental Protection and Sustainable Economical Development
On 14th of November 2025, the Cahul Business Center and Ecological Consulting Center Cahul, Republic of Moldova have officially signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at strengthening regional collaboration in environmental protection, climate resilience and sustainable economic development within the Prut–Danube–Black Sea region.
The agreement highlights the growing need to restore and protect aquatic and forestry ecosystems in the Prut River basin—an essential tributary of the Danube and part of the Black Sea catchment. In the face of accelerating climate change and biodiversity loss, both institutions commit to supporting initiatives that enhance ecosystem health, safeguard natural habitats and promote sustainable resource management.
A key focus of the cooperation is the promotion of carbon sequestration, through the utilization of aquatic and terrestrial vegetation to capture carbon, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen the resilience of wetland and riparian ecosystems. This approach contributes to climate mitigation and supports the ecological balance of local communities.
The memorandum reinforces the objectives of the “Blue Carbon” project, implemented under the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, which aims to develop sustainable management models for wetlands and aquatic habitats. In parallel, it connects with the DRWO4.0 project, dedicated to advancing the wood-processing industry in the Danube Region through digital transformation in line with Industry 4.0 principles.
This cooperation aligns closely with EU Regulation 2024/1991 on Nature Restoration, which calls for concrete measures to revive natural habitats, rehabilitate wetlands, rivers and lakes, and strengthen Europe’s ecological resilience.
By integrating environmental expertise with business development capacities, the partnership supports regional efforts to promote the circular economy and sustainable community development. Both institutions reaffirm their commitment to advancing innovative, environmentally responsible initiatives that contribute to the ecological and economic wellbeing of the region.
