ESINERGY Pilot Action in Croatia
As part of the ESINERGY project, a battery energy storage system was installed in the administrative building of the Knowledge Center of Međimurje County.
Additionally, the existing system for remote monitoring of energy production and consumption was upgraded, allowing real-time visual representation to monitor and analyze the building's energy status. The battery system, with a capacity of 25 kWh and power of 10 kW, installed by Solektra, primarily serves to cover peak loads, reducing the need to draw active power from the distribution network, which is the goal of the ESINERGY project. In addition to increasing the building's energy self-sufficiency, this also helps the distribution network during peak demand periods. The battery system also serves as a backup power source for critical devices in the building. Since the building has been systematically investing in renewable energy sources since 2016, including a 20 kW solar power plant installed two years ago, this was the first case in Croatia where an approval for electrical power purpose was issued solely for a battery system.
According to the energy production and consumption data of the building, 30% of the energy produced in the power plant was consumed on-site, while the remainder was fed into the power grid.
By installing the battery system, the building's energy self-sufficiency doubles, with 60% of the energy produced in the solar power plant used for the building's needs.
The company Krtech Digital was responsible for upgrading the existing remote monitoring system for energy production and for real-time visualization and graphic representation, allowing users and visitors to the building to view the energy status and benefits of using renewable energy sources.
Međimurje County and its energy agency MENEA are successfully advancing their green transition goals through investments and securing EU funding.
With the ESINERGY project, we went a step further, equipping the administrative building in our Knowledge Center with infrastructure worth €43,000, including a battery energy storage system.
The ESINERGY project, through which the investment was implemented, is co-financed by Interreg Danube Region Programme 2021-2027 from the European Regional Development Fund.
