ESINERGY Pilot Action in Austria
16 project partners from 12 EU countries are working together in the Interreg Danube project ESINERGY.
The aim is to overcome the imbalance between the energy generated and the load on the electricity grid. We want to use modern energy technologies to better cover the increasing energy consumption and the growing demand for energy.
At the W.E.I.Z. innovation center, a center for innovation, energy and future topics, we develop pioneering projects, initiate research work and operate sustainable energy systems. The W.E.I.Z. Innovation Center consists of four buildings, each of which was a pilot project for sustainable construction when it was built. W.E.I.Z. 1 is the largest timber-framed passive energy office building in Central Europe, while W.E.I.Z. 2 with its “cool box” energy concept relies on geothermal energy.
W.E.I.Z. 3 serves as a training and start-up center and has energy-efficient heating and cooling Technology and W.E.I.Z. 4 is an emission-neutral plus-energy building specially designed for research institutions. Our energy systems include a 120 kWp photovoltaic system distributed across four building complexes. The buildings and the photovoltaic systems are directly connected to each other via an innovative energy node, which helps to reduce the load on the public grid.
