Outdoor demonstration in the city of Khotyn as part of the ESINERGY project implementation
On March 24, 2025, an outdoor demonstration event took place in the city of Khotyn as part of the ESINERGY project implementation
The event aimed to introduce key stakeholders to the practical aspects of implemented projects that utilize renewable energy sources to enhance the energy self-sufficiency of critical infrastructure facilities and reduce peak loads on community power grids in Ukraine. Nearly 30 representatives from communities in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi regions attended the event in person, while more than 50 others joined online.
The initiative was organized by the Association of "Energy-Efficient Cities of Ukraine" (EECU) in partnership with the Khotyn City Council, the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, JSC "Ukrainian Decarbonization Fund," the Ukrainian Non-Profit Energy Agency, the NGO "EcoClub," and the Bukovyna Community Development Agency.
As part of the ESINERGY project implementation in Khotyn Hospital, and in addition to previously introduced energy modernization measures and the installation of a 150 kW PV-station, a heat pump was installed and commissioned to provide energy-efficient heating in one of the hospital buildings.
According to Volodymyr Smolii, the project coordinator from EECU, the air-to-water heat pump has a maximum capacity of 75 kW and can maintain comfortable temperature conditions in hospital premises covering over 1,000 square meters. Its installation will allow the facility to save up to 80% of its previous heating costs spent on gas. Additionally, combining it with the existing solar power station ensures uninterrupted energy supply to the heat pump through renewable energy sources, significantly enhancing the hospital’s energy independence amid ongoing energy challenges in Ukraine.
The demonstration event in Khotyn was held within the framework of the ESINERGY project, "Empowerment of the stakeholders in the implementation of the Directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources in term of energy storages and energy networks stability." The project is implemented by an international consortium with the support of the Interreg Danube Region Programme and co-financing from the European Union.
