ForestConnect attended the 16th Meeting of the Carpathian Convention Implementation Committee
At the kind invitation of the Serbian Presidency of the Carpathian Convention, the ForestConnect was presented during the 16th Meeting of the Carpathian Convention Implementation Committee (CCIC), held in Belgrade (2–3 December 2025). The session brought together government representatives, scientific institutions, and conservation organisations committed to strengthening ecological connectivity and climate resilience across the Carpathian region.
Tanya Georgieva‑Schnell (WWF Bulgaria) and Elisabeth Wiegele (Carinthia University of Applied Sciences – CUAS) presented ForestConnect’s approach to improving forest resilience, ecological corridors, and coexistence with large carnivores. Their contribution highlighted how the project supports the Convention’s long‑term goals for integrated landscape management and cross‑border cooperation.
The CCIC plays a crucial role in translating the Carpathian Convention’s commitments into coordinated action among Parties. By bringing ForestConnect to this high‑level forum, the project team underscored the importance of science‑based planning, stakeholder engagement, and harmonised management approaches across the Carpathians, Dinarides, and Balkans.
ForestConnect’s participation also reinforced the need for stronger collaboration between protected area managers, forestry authorities, and local communities — a key priority for the Convention as climate change, habitat fragmentation, and human–wildlife interactions continue to intensify. http://www.carpathianconvention.org/2025/10/14/16th-meeting-of-the-carpathian-convention-implementation-committee/\
