Measures for a More Resilient Landscape Tested in Slovak Paradise

In June 2026, experts from the Slovak Paradise National Park Administration and WWF Slovakia presented practical measures aimed at improving landscape resilience, biodiversity, and coexistence between people and wildlife. The activities were implemented within the international ForestConnect project.

Key measures included the mulching of overgrown grasslands, the planting of wild fruit trees, and targeted management of young forest stands to create more diverse and resilient forest ecosystems. These interventions help enhance food availability and shelter for wildlife while improving the landscape’s ability to cope with climate change impacts.

Special attention was paid to ecological connectivity, which is essential for species such as wolves, bears, and lynx. Monitoring activities, including camera trapping and corridor mapping, provided valuable data to support the protection and restoration of wildlife movement routes and reduce human–wildlife conflicts.

The experience from Slovak Paradise demonstrates that combining practical management measures, scientific knowledge, and stakeholder cooperation can deliver tangible results. These actions not only support nature conservation but also contribute to improving living conditions for local communities.
