Municipality of Majur Hosts Students for Green-Tex Project Presentation and Croatian Wool Craft Workshop

The Municipality of Majur, a Green-Texproject partner,  recently hosted students and professors from across Croatia to present the Green-Tex project, showcase traditional Croatian wool crafts, and raise awareness about the environmental impact of wool disposal. As an active partner in the Green-Tex project, Municipality of Majur supports the growth of the circular economy by promoting sustainable resource use and material reuse.

On October 14, 2024, students and professors from MEV - Međimursko veleučilište u Čakovcu, Sveučilište Jurja Dobrile u Puli, and Veleučilište u Križevcima visited the wool center, Woonko-Centar vune Majur, where Majur’s mayor, Klementina Karanović, presented the municipality's sustainability efforts. The visit featured a presentation by Željka Harčević, who introduced the group to the basics of wool processing, from sheep shearing to crafting a variety of wool products.

In an innovative twist, Ante Čakarić provided VR glasses that allowed attendees to experience a simulated sheep-shearing process, alongside a fun interactive game focused on sheep care.

To conclude the visit, students and professors participated in a hands-on wet felting workshop, crafting wool chestnut cones as keepsakes. This experience highlighted the value of preserving traditional woolcraft knowledge while building cooperation between educational institutions and the local community. Activities like this not only enrich the educational experience but also promote sustainability and environmental consciousness, inspiring a new generation to value and preserve Croatia’s cultural heritage and natural resources.
