BSPB Presented the RESTORIVER Project During the Persina by Bike Event
On July 6 and 7, the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) team took part in the Persina by Bike event, organised by the “Danube Ultra” initiative. The event was held within the territory of the Persina Nature Park to promote adventure tourism and the sustainable conservation of natural heritage along the Danube River.
As a partner of the event, BSPB hosted an informational stand where, alongside the products, BSPB presented the activities under the RESTORIVER project. This project focuses on restoring river ecosystems and conserving biodiversity in the Danube region. Visitors had the opportunity to learn more about the project’s goals, which include restoring water regimes in key wetlands, implementing measures for natural water retention, and raising public awareness about the importance of healthy river ecosystems.
As part of the event, on Sunday, BSPB representatives also joined a guided visit to Persin Island – the largest Bulgarian island on the Danube River, which is also a Nature park. Participants had the chance to enjoy a birdwatching walk and observe a variety of bird species in their natural habitat.
Through its involvement in initiatives such as Persina by Bike, BSPB continues to promote sustainable practices for nature conservation and to raise awareness about the need to restore and protect Bulgaria’s rivers and wetlands.
The RESTORIVER project is funded under the INTERREG VI-B Danube Region Programme 2021–2027 and brings together 15 organisations along the Danube River, with BSPB as the lead partner.
