Nature-based solutions in water management in Serbia

The RESTORIVER project aims to increase climate adaptation capacities of riversides and riparian areas by harmonising, adapting and connecting higher-level management, climate and flood protection policies with local interventions.

In order to make a step forward towards that goal, the City of Sombor organized two workshops in April 2025 for representatives of local government, provincial government, public institutions, civil society organisations, private company and an research institution.

The participants had the opportunity to learn about the RESTORIVER project, about the nature-based solutions planned to be implemented on the pilot area - Dondo sidearm, a well as general benefits of natural-based solutions. Presenters showcased many examples of good practices and motivated participants to get involved even more.

Furthermore, the second workshop gave participants an insight in NbS in agriculture, forestry, hydromorphology and urbanisation provided by the NWRM.EU platform.

These are just a few from many similar events we will implement in the Danube region in order to promote important natural water retention measures and their implementation for better and more sustainable future.
