WWF Slovakia organized a Walk along Biskupicke rameno side arm in Bratislava in October this year. This event was focused on the introduction of the water regime-related issues in the area and the RESTORIVER project - which deals with these issues, with the participation of nature conservation professionals.

The group of 40 participants walked along the Biskupicke rameno side arm towards the Danube, stopping in a small resting area about halfway through, where Marina Paulikova, a freshwater expert from WWF Slovakia, explained the situation and issues in the

area and introduced the RESTORIVER project and plans for subsequent activities in the area of

Topolove hony. Afterwards, representatives of BROZ, an NGO active in the area,

introduced their nearby pasture project, and the attendees followed them to the pasture

spot where they talked in more detail.

The goal of this event was to familiarize the public with the area, the vicinity of which many of them know or even visit for recreational purposes but were unfamiliar with the water regime

issues in the area. During the discussion, it was emphasized that any restoration activities

are preceded by thorough planning and modeling to ensure flood protection, which is often a public concern. It was also pointed out that the small channel – the pilot activity of the RESTORIVER project – is only the beginning of our efforts in the area, and the public will be involved and informed of all restoration measures.

It is really interesting and beautiful that during this walk, the attendees expressed their interest in rubbish picking in the area, as especially along the northern edge (where the bus stop and a road are), there was some general waste (mostly plastic bottles, bags, etc.). Therefore, WWF Slovakia organized a second event focused on waste collection that took place in November.
