Sampling in Ukraine

Ukrainian sampling sites

River water:

• Tisza - Chop (48,416389, 22,186667). The sampling site is located on the border with Hungary. Enterprises are engaged in freight forwarding services for cargoes arriving by rail and road. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• Tisza - Dilove (Khmeliv) (47,937102, 24,178276). The sampling site is located on the border with Romania. There is a marble quarry in Dilove. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• Latoritsa - N. Davydkove (48,441227, 22,543220). The sampling site is located on the left bank of the Latorytsia River. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• Uzh - Storozhnytsya (48,605820, 22,213546). The sampling site is located on the border with Slovakia. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• Prut - Kostychany (48,217687, 26,498238). The sampling site is located on the border with Romania and Moldova. The main economic activity of the city is represented by the agricultural industry ("Kolos Agroholding"). HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• Siret- Storozhynets (48,149722, 25,715556). The sampling site is impacted by the food and forestry industry. The population is 14077 persons. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• Chorna Tisza - Chorna Tisza (48,316280, 24,321637). Background location in the pristine area, with no known sources of pollution.

• Teresva – Teresva (48,000533, 23,675829). Background location in the pristine area, with no known sources of pollution.

• Rica - Khust (48,180278, 23,270278). "Hot spot" sampling site. Felt products factory, furniture plant, brick and tile factory, food industry enterprises are located here. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• Vicha – Nelipyno (48,567222, 23,042778). "Hot spot" sampling site with the heavy train traffic. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• Danube – Reni (45,466681, 28,229551). The sampling site is located on the border with Romania.  It has a railway station and a seaport. The population is 17700 persons. PJSC "ODESSNEFTEPRODUKT" RENI BRANCH is located here. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

WWTP:

• MUNICIPAL COMPANY "VODOKANAL UZHGOROD"- Uzhhorod (48,61683,22,25436). WWTP receives discharges from households. Total population is 115 449 inhabitants. Economic activities are represented by wholesale and retail trade in food products, solid, liquid, gaseous fuels and similar products (PJSC CONCERN GALNAFTOGAZ). HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• MUKACHEVVODOKANAL MUNICIPAL UTILITY COMPANY – Mukacheve (48,44657, 22,65284). WWTP receives discharges from households. Total population is 85 569 inhabitants. Economic activities are represented by wholesale and retail trade in food products. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• HOUSING AND COMMUNAL SERVICES – Khust (48,17225, 23,27741). WWTP receives discharges from households. Total population is 31 612 inhabitants. Khust operates a felt and shoe factory, a furniture factory, a brick and tile factory, and food processing enterprises. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• HOUSING AND COMMUNAL SERVICES – Vynohradiv (48,10671, 23,02773). WWTP receives discharges from households. Total population is 25 317 inhabitants. City is the centre of a large agricultural district. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• VODOKANAL KARPATVIZ LTD – Berehove (48,233920, 22,619280). WWTP receives discharges from households. Total population is 23 325 inhabitants. The city's economy is represented by the food industry, woodworking, machine building, light industry. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• SVALYAVA RKPVV – Svaliava (48,551520, 22,969990). WWTP receives discharges from households. Total population is 17 068 inhabitants. It is a curative city. The outskirts of the city are rich in alkaline-carbon dioxide springs. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• MUNICIPAL ENTERPRISE "RAKHIVTEPLO" – Rakhiv (48,043020, 24,180320). WWTP receives discharges from households. Total population is 15 536 inhabitants. Оne of the most famous tourist and recreational centres in western Ukraine. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• IZMAIL CELLULOSE-CARDBOARD COMBINE, PUBLIC CORPORATION- Izmail (45,281660, 28,933330). WWTP receives discharges from paper and wood production processing. Total population is 69 932 inhabitants. Danube basin Water Management authority (discharge to Kyrgyzsh-Kitay river, Yalpugh river), Izmail water management department (discharge to Velikiy Katlabukh river, Saphyani Lake, Danube River) are also located in Izmail. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• KP "KOLOMYIAVODOKANAL" – Kolomiya (48,497520, 25,098210). WWTP receives discharges from households. Total population is 62 990 inhabitants.The city's industry is represented by a curtain factory, a paper factory, a metal plant, the Prut Experimental Plant, a cheese factory, the Kolomyia Building Materials Plant, a garment factory, the Kolomyia Motor Transport Enterprise, a meat processing plant, and a fruit canning plant. All enterprises are in a deplorable condition. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

• MUNICIPAL COMPANY "CHERNIVTSIVODOKANAL" – Chernivtsi (48,272990, 26,040810). WWTP receives discharges from households. Total population is 264 298 inhabitants. Economic activities are represented by wholesale and retail trade in food products, industrial goods and service sector. HS measured: metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals.

Lower Danube

As for the photos of the sampling site’s location… Due to the martial law in our country, unfortunately we are not allowed to take any photos in the border area. Even staying these territories requires special permission from local Military Administrations.
