EU Macro-regional and Sea Basin Strategies Days Return in July 2026

The EU Macro-regional and Sea Basin Strategies Days are making a comeback on 1 and 2 July 2026 in Brussels! Co-organised by the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), this two-day event will once again bring together all eight macro-regional and sea basin strategies: Alpine, Danube, Adriatic-Ionian, Baltic Sea, Atlantic, Western Mediterranean, Black Sea, and Greater North Sea.

The 2026 edition arrives at a pivotal moment for EU cooperation. With the new European Commission setting fresh orientations and early signals emerging from negotiations on the post-2027 programming period and the future Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), the event will take place against a backdrop of geopolitical instability, climate pressures, and socio-economic transformation. Key themes of security, resilience, competitiveness, enlargement, and place-based delivery of EU priorities are expected to shape the discussions.

Building on the outcomes of the successful 2025 edition, which confirmed the eight strategies as a mature and increasingly delivery-oriented cooperation system, the 2026 Strategies Days will offer a strategic space to take stock of ongoing developments, exchange perspectives on emerging policy directions, and explore how the strategies can best position themselves for post-2027 programming. Special attention will be given to governance, visibility, embedding into EU and national funding frameworks, and opportunities for joint action.

The event aims to foster dialogue among EU institutions, national and regional authorities, stakeholders, and civil society — reinforcing the role of Macro-regional and Sea Basin Strategies as flexible, multi-sectoral, and cooperative frameworks that can adapt to evolving EU priorities and deliver real impact for territories and citizens across Europe.
