Montenegro Ministry Organises Riverbank Clean-Up Along Ćehotina River

The Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development of Montenegro organised an educational riverbank clean-up action along the Ćehotina River near Pljevlja, as part of the AQUATIC PLASTIC (AQPLA) project. The activity took place within the framework of the "Days of Action for Rivers" initiative.

The action was carried out on the left bank of the Ćehotina River, along the section between the Pljevlja–Gradac main road, in accordance with the criteria defined by the project. Participants included representatives of the Municipality of Pljevlja, the local public utility company, and students from the "Ristan Pavlović" Primary School in Pljevlja.

The Ćehotina is a river in northern Montenegro that flows through Pljevlja before crossing into Bosnia and Herzegovina. Plastic pollution in river systems has been identified as a significant environmental concern across the Western Balkans, and the AQPLA project targets this issue through coordinated actions involving local authorities, public services, and educational institutions.

As part of the action, the AQPLA project provided equipment to support waste management in the municipality. The local public utility company received a large metal container with a capacity of 5 m³, 30 plastic waste bins, and rubber boots. The "Ristan Pavlović" Primary School received two waste-sorting sets intended for use in environmental education activities.
