Idrija welcomed a delegation of mayors and deputy mayors from municipalities within the UNESCO Global Geopark Hațeg in Romania. The visit took place as part of the Danube GeoTour Plus project, in which Geopark Idrija is a partner.
The delegation met with the Mayor of Idrija, showing particular interest in the role of the geopark in local development, how the municipality supports its work, and the incentives available to local providers.
Staff from Geopark Idrija and the Municipality of Idrija presented their key areas of work. During the visit, the guests also explored the Geopark Idrija Visitor Centre, Anthony’s Main Road Zgornja Idrijca Landscape Park, and Zajc Brewery.
They were especially impressed by local associations dedicated to preserving the region’s handicraft heritage. Presentations were given by members of the Handicraft Section of the Idrija–Cerkno Sheep-Keeper Society, the »Flaxen Women«, and the Idrija Lacemakers Association. The delegation also enjoyed the local specialties.
Participants agreed that many of the good practices they observed could be adapted to their own regions, and numerous opportunities for new connections and future cooperation were identified.
