Discovering Geotop and Sharing Knowledge - UNESCO Geopark Swabian Albs

𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 & 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 – 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰

At the 28th International Annual Geotope Conference of the DGGV’s Section on Geotopes and Geoparks, hosted this year by the UNESCO Global Geopark Vulkaneifel , participants explored the role of geosites in education and conservation.

Alongside inspiring talks on geoconservation and “focus learning sites,” excursions through the stunning maar landscapes of the Vulkaneifel revealed ancient reefs, dormant volcanoes, historic lime kilns, and even geysers.

A true highlight: Prof. Dr. Georg Büchel (Friedrich Schiller University Jena) presented exclusive insights into newly discovered maars—significantly more than previously known!

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐫. 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐝𝐢 𝐌𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐳 presented at the conference about a new interactive and inclusive digital education program, part of 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐠 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐛𝐞 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐮𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭. This program aims to incorporate the latest in environmental and sustainable development education to promote the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. It also adopts a bottom-up approach, involving target group members from the planning phase to contribute their experiences and expertise.
