Transnational thematic and capitalization event, Danube GeoTour Plus, in Kladovo, Djerdap, Serbia
2nd Transnational Event – Kladovo, Serbia (11–15 November 2024)
The second transnational meeting of the Danube GeoTour Plus project took place in Kladovo, Serbia, hosted by the Djerdap UNESCO Global Geopark. Partners from nine countries gathered for a thematic and capitalisation event focused on enhancing the GeoExperience model, integrating vulnerable groups (VGs), and shaping a transnational promotional strategy.
The program featured a rich mix of workshops, presentations, and field activities. Sessions focused on aligning SO1 action plans, defining practical inclusion strategies for various vulnerable groups—such as elderly, youth, minorities, and rural women—and linking these directly with SO2 GeoExperience development. Creative workshops helped partners build “personas” to better understand the needs, motivations, and barriers faced by these target groups.
Partners also collaboratively defined a common set of criteria for future GeoExperience offers—covering elements such as accessibility, local heritage, emotional engagement, nature protection, and regional identity. These criteria aim to ensure a consistent, high-quality, and inclusive visitor experience across all Danube Geoparks.
The meeting also addressed visitor monitoring and data collection tools under SO3, with workshops to design a joint app tailored to different Geopark typologies. Additionally, a storytelling and communication workshop helped define a shared transnational narrative and coordinated promotion campaign, including a project slogan and visual identity.
The event concluded with a scenic field trip through Djerdap Geopark, including a hike to Ploce viewpoint and a boat ride along the Danube to key heritage landmarks. These immersive experiences reinforced the project's mission: connecting people with nature, culture, and local communities through meaningful, sustainable tourism.
This event marked a major step forward in building a shared, inclusive, and innovative geotourism offer throughout the Danube region.
