Successful Training and Partner Meeting held in Sarajevo
The Danube Water Balance (DWB) project consortium successfully organised a combined stakeholder training, workshop, and partner meeting in Sarajevo, between 20-24 April 2026, hosted by the University of Sarajevo with the support of the General Directorate of Water Management of Hungary (OVF), the project’s Lead Partner.
The Danube Water Balance project, implemented under the Interreg Danube Region Programme, aims to develop a harmonised, Danube Basin-wide water balance modelling framework supporting transboundary water management and climate adaptation across the region.
The 2.5-day international training and stakeholder workshop brought together experts, researchers, water management professionals, and institutional stakeholders from across the Danube Region. Altogether, 28 participants attended the training programme alongside 24 lecturers and project experts representing the project partnership. Participants from 31 different organisations took part in the event, creating a highly diverse and interactive professional environment.
The programme combined technical training sessions with stakeholder consultation workshops, focusing on the practical application of the CWatM water balance model, climate change scenario analyses, data management solutions, and the interpretation of modelling results for transboundary river basins. Dedicated sessions also introduced the project’s Central Data Storage platform and Web-GIS visualisation tools, supporting future cooperation and knowledge sharing among institutions.
The event provided an excellent opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and discuss future water management challenges affecting the Danube River Basin. The interactive workshop discussions highlighted the growing interest in harmonised water balance assessments and demonstrated the importance of international cooperation in addressing water quantity issues under changing climate conditions.
Following the training, project partners held the fifth official partner meeting of the consortium on 23rd and 24th April 2026. During the two-day meeting, partners reviewed the progress achieved within the project’s three thematic work packages, including data collection activities, model development, climate scenario simulations, and dissemination activities. Special attention was given to the completion of project outputs, fulfilment of programme indicators, reporting obligations, and quality assurance aspects required by the Managing Authority.
The Sarajevo meeting marked another important milestone for the DWB project, further strengthening cooperation among Danube countries and contributing to the development of a shared knowledge base for sustainable water resource management in the region.
