Awareness-Raising Activity Implemented within the ELEVATE Project
During April and May 2026, the project team of Osijek-Baranja County and representatives of the Đakovo Home for the Elderly and Infirm visited nine rural municipalities in the Đakovo area (Semeljci, Strizivojna, Drenje, Satnica Đakovačka, Trnava, Punitovci, Gorjani, Levanjska Varoš and Viškovci) as part of the first pilot activity of the ELEVATE project – raising awareness of the needs of older people and the importance of developing community-based services. A total of 231 people participated in the meetings, alongside representatives of local self-government units, including 147 members of the target group.
Participants were introduced to the planned pilot activity – a combined multidisciplinary model of community-based service provision, which includes various activities aimed at maintaining physical and mental well-being and promoting social inclusion. These activities are planned to take place at the Đakovo Home for the Elderly and Infirm and at premises provided by municipalities in the Đakovo area.
Valuable feedback on participants’ needs was also collected. Particular emphasis was placed on the challenges of loneliness, limited access to healthcare and social activities, and transportation difficulties in rural areas, as well as on the need for sustainable services that enable older people to live more active, safer and higher-quality lives within their own communities.
