Training of Trainers (ToT) in Budapest

InDiMaND in Budapest – Training, Knowledge sharing and New international cooperation

On 29–30 September 2026, Budapest hosted the InDiMaND Training of Trainers (ToT) programme. The two-day event focused on developing trainers’ skills, sharing professional knowledge and experience, climate risks, and strengthening international cooperation. The programme was followed by another important milestone on 1 October, when the presidents of the Moldovan, Romanian and Budapest Firefighter Associations signed a cooperation agreement to support future joint activities.

Developing training capacities together

The Training of Trainers programme aimed to develop the knowledge and skills needed to design and deliver effective professional training, while also providing methods that can later be transferred and applied at national level.

The first day included developing high performance in technical rescue, followed by sessions within the InDiMaND Training of Trainers programme focusing on adult learning principles and different learning styles.

During the afternoon programme, the focus shifted to communication and facilitation skills for trainers, intercultural communication and training in multinational environments, as well as different feedback methods.

The international training environment provided an opportunity for participants from different countries and organisations not only to learn new methods, but also to share their own professional experiences and approaches.

Climate Risk Study – Focusing on climate risks

An important professional element of the programme was the presentation of the HUSKROUA – Climate Risk Study.

This session complemented the two-day professional event by addressing the topic of climate risks and provided an additional opportunity to share related knowledge and experience.

Preparing for environmental and climate risks is closely linked to the objectives of InDiMaND: understanding the changing risk environment, sharing available information and connecting professional experience all play an important role in improving preparedness.

From knowledge to practice

On the second day, the practical aspects of trainer development came into focus.

Participants worked on training design, defining learning objectives, structuring training sessions and selecting appropriate training methods.

As part of a group exercise, they developed their own training session plans, giving them the opportunity to put the principles discussed earlier into practice.

The programme also included practical exercises and micro-training sessions, as well as discussions on training evaluation and how lessons learned can be used in future activities.

One of the key concluding topics of the two-day programme was the future transfer of the knowledge gained. Participants also discussed planning national replication activities and ensuring the sustainability of project results.

International cooperation beyond InDiMaND events

The Budapest series of events also demonstrated how professional relationships established through InDiMaND can develop into longer-term cooperation.

On 1 October 2026, following the InDiMaND project event, the presidents of the Moldovan, Romanian and Budapest Firefighter Associations signed a cooperation agreement in Budapest.

The agreement aims to continue and further strengthen professional cooperation between the three organisations in areas including:

  • joint professional training programmes,

  • joint exercises,

  • and the implementation of EU-funded applications and international projects.

The cooperation agreement is a tangible result of the professional networking supported by the international environment of the InDiMaND project.

From knowledge sharing to Long-Term Cooperation

The Budapest programme demonstrated one of InDiMaND’s key principles: international cooperation becomes truly valuable when shared knowledge leads to practical results and long-term professional relationships.

Joint training, the exchange of experiences, learning about different professional approaches and transferring acquired knowledge can all contribute to strengthening the capacities of the participating organisations.

The cooperation agreement signed on 1 October also demonstrates that professional relationships established within InDiMaND can continue to develop beyond individual project events, creating a foundation for new joint training activities, exercises and projects.

InDiMaND continues to strengthen knowledge sharing, capacity building and cross-border professional cooperation, helping communities and professional organisations across the Danube Region become better prepared to face future challenges.
