Decision-making support tool for microplastics - Output 3.2
Output 3.2 Decision-making support tool for microplastics presents the development, testing, and implementation of the Decision-making support tool (DMST) developed within the scope of project MicroDrink. The DMST is a practical software solution designed to support the management of microplastics in drinking water resources. The tool translates scientific knowledge, pilot experiences, and stakeholder feedback into practical guidance for water suppliers, public authorities, laboratories, and decision-makers. The output describes the complete development process of the DMST, from stakeholder consultations and testing during national capacity-building training courses to validation at pilot sites across the Danube Region. It also provides guidance on downloading, installing, and using the tool, together with its accompanying technical documentation and user manual. As one of the project's key practical outputs, the DMST helps users assess microplastic-related challenges, identify appropriate management measures, and prepare for the future integration of microplastics into drinking water monitoring and risk management. By providing a structured, user-friendly decision-support framework, it contributes to strengthening institutional preparedness and supporting harmonised approaches to microplastics management.
